Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger are down in a global outage, but the company is working on a fix

There is a problem with WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook. This appears to have to do with a DNS server outage. It has been confirmed that a fix is on the way.

Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp services are down for most users. Twitter has been flooded with reports of outages on these platforms. The three services were showing the same error at the time of writing this article. Facebook also can't load the page properly, and WhatsApp can't send or receive messages. Similarly, Instagram can't update the feed.

Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp platforms are experiencing downtime, according to Downdetector.

Update: Those experiencing trouble accessing Facebook apps and products were notified via email by a Facebook spokesperson, who stated, "We are working to restore services as quickly as possible."

As WhatsApp acknowledges the outage, it has taken to Twitter to acknowledge the issue, "We're aware of some WhatsApp issues right now. We'll work to resolve this as soon as our systems are up and running again. Thanks for your patience."

We apologize for any inconvenience caused by recent hiccups with our apps and products, and are working hard to restore them as quickly as possible." Facebook's Twitter account responded, "We are aware that some users are having difficulty accessing our apps."

The Instagram communication handle tweeted that the service may be experiencing issues right now and that you may be having trouble using it. Please bear with us, we're working on it! #instagramdown."

According to Downdetector data, WhatsApp users are experiencing issues when sending messages. Nearly 9,000 crashes were reported by the website DownDetector.

As for Instagram, Downdetector, the website that tracks services and websites, reports that there are roughly 8,000 users having issues with it. The problem is reportedly a server connection issue. Approximately 4,000 people reported downtime issues on Downdetector for Facebook, which claims that the issues were related to a server, website, or app.

Though it is still too early to tell for certain, the DNS server seems to be down. Facebook or Instagram return a timeout when a refresh request is made through the app or website. Once Facebook provides an update on the outage, updated copies will be made available.

According to DownDetector, another Facebook property, Messenger, is also down. Messenger users will not be able to send or receive messages in the same way as Instagram users.
